Yes, I'm in high school, yes, I'm only in my junior year, and yes, I'm OBSESSED with dorms. When I went away for a week this summer to the University of Florida's Summer Journalism Institute I stayed on campus in a dorm in Rawlings Hall. I absolutely loved being in a dorm with everything close by. I also loved having the common area for everyone to hang out after classes were over. It was a great way to meet new people, especially if you don't particularly like your roommate. It's good to get out of your room and hang out with different people that you might not meet if you're locked up in the room. I love how you can really make your dorm room your own. I love decorating, so I had a fun time getting some things at the UF bookstore to make my dorm feel like home (even though it was just for a week)! I love seeing IKEA commercials and going on websites to look at furniture. I just picture how I would decorate my house, room, dorm, anything! I know some people would rather live in an apartment to have their own bathroom, kitchen, etc. but I actually prefer a dorm. I think they're more cozy and fun to live in. I also consider them to be safer, and since I'm afraid of pretty much everything, going home to an apartment late at night would creep me out. If you're in a dorm there are people around 24/7. Plus, you have the rest of your life to live in apartments, living in a dorm is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. It gives you the full college experience. I hope when I go to college I can have the experience of living in a dorm for at least one year, if not all four!
