Whenever I get Smoothie King after school (practically every day), I always see Salad Shack de Las Sifrinas and tell myself I'm going to try it out one day. I finally went to try it last weekend and it's amazing. Not only do they have a salad bar where you can create your own salad but they have a variety of Venezuelan food too! I've gone about three times now and had different things to eat every time; all delicious! Don't ask me what my favorite thing from the menu is because it's too hard to choose! My advice for when you go to Salad Shack: get the dessert they have in the mini freezer. This is one of the best desserts I've ever had! They are little things called '¡Que Marquesas!' and they come in a sort of heart shaped container. There are a lot of flavors but my favorite has to be the Cookies & Cream. The Marquesas have pudding on the top with cookie crumbles, underneath that there's dulce de leche (yum!), and then under that is more pudding and a galleta de Maria alllll the way at the bottom. Are you hungry yet? Well, most likely the answer to that is yes and you should be driving over to Salad Shack now to get some arepas and Marquesas. Happy eating!

About two weekends ago I had the chance to visit the Pérez Art Museum Miami. PAMM is a modern and contemporary art museum in Downtown Miami. The artwork is amazing and the museum is right next to the water so after you finish looking at the beautiful art you can take a stroll outside (if the Miami sun isn't too bad of course). If you have the chance, I definitely recommend visiting PAMM. Admission is free every first Thursday of the month from 10am-9pm and every second Saturday of the month so take advantage of that and go check it out!
Here are some pictures from my visit... Getting in the Christmas spirit, here are my top five DIY Christmas gifts! (Click on the number in front of the DIY gift to go to the website with instructions on how to make it!)
1. Even though you bake your cookies ten minutes before you have to leave your house, in hopes of them still being soft and delicious when you get to your family gathering, they always end up getting hard. So instead of your little cousin biting into what once was your soft and chewy cookie and breaking a tooth you can follow this DIY cookie dough recipe! All you have to do is make the cookie dough, put it in the freezer, and let your family do the rest when you get to their house! 2. This is the perfect gift for a bookworm! A yarn ball or pom pom bookmark is a super fun and cute book accessory. All you need to make this gift is yarn and a pair of scissors. It really is just that easy! 3. This is a great alternative to going to Bath and Body Works and spending 15 to 25 dollars on a little jar of a body scrub that might not even smell good. This brown sugar scrub is super easy to make! Just mix four ingredients into a bowl and put them into jars. If you want to give it a personalized touch you can get some of your friends favorite colored string and tie it around the jar! 4. If your mom doesn't really ask for a Christmas gift, this is a great thing to do for her, especially if she falls into the 'Jewelry Lovers' category! She will definitely love this wire heart ring, especially since you made it. All the tools necessary to make this, like wire, pliers, and colored pencils, can be found at your local Michael's. 5. Since everyone is jumping on the mason jar bandwagon, why shouldn't you? People get so many baked goods during Christmas that there's no time to eat them all! Putting the ingredients to your friends favorite brownie recipe into a mason jar is such an easy and great idea! Your friend gets to choose when they want to put all the ingredients you gave them into a bowl, add some eggs, and bake their favorite recipe. If housewife, Teresa Giudice, facing 15 months in federal prison and husband, Joe Giudice, facing 41 months isn't enough to make a person want to watch The Real Housewives of New Jersey then I don't know what is. RHONJ is a reality tv show that focuses in on the lives of 6 women, or "housewives", from New Jersey. These women aren't actors, their lives are really just that dramatic! A prime example of how dramatic their lives can be is Teresa Giudice, one of the housewives, and her husband Joe having been convicted with conspiracy and bankruptcy fraud. This is all happening with the cameras right next to them, taping everything that they're going through. One thing I love about this show is how the women don't hold back, they let the the viewers see everything which makes you feel like a part of their crazy family. You see the crying, the fighting, the flipping of the tables; everything! So, at 9 o'clock on Sundays you can definitely find me on my couch humming along to the Real Housewives theme song!
I've been using Knock Knock Stuff for such a long time so I was very excited when I found out about their Dress Your Desk campaign. Knock Knock Stuff keeps all your things organized in a cute and fun way! One of the things I mainly use is the Pack This! Pad, which helps you make sure that all your things are packed and ready to go for your vacation without having to sit down and write a checklist that will probably end up not having a few important items on it.
Here are some items you can get to dress up your desk... *Indexed Index Cards which are super cute index cards that come in bright colors like yellow, green, and pink. You can use them for anything from preparing for your upcoming test to writing down your new favorite recipe! *The 'It's Gonna Be Okay' Guided Journal which has over 70 funny and clever quotes that can help you get through the rough days. *And last but certainly not least, the Honest Acronym File Folders. These folders come in beautiful colors and have the funniest acronyms on them! My favorite, which was very hard to choose since they all make me laugh, has to be the BTW folder. In Knock Knock world, BTW stands for "Beginning To Worry" which, let's be honest, would be where all our papers would have to go. Another great one is the WTF folder and no, it doesn't stand for what you think it stands for. Again, Knock Knock has made a new meaning for WTF and it stands for "What's This For?". Now go out there and dress your desk! Don't forget to tag us @knockknockstuff and @alexaalamode and hashtag #DressYourDesk when you put a photo of your new and dressed up desk on Instagram! You can also check out other products like the Pack This! Pad I mentioned before at www.knockknockstuff.com. I've seen so many people wearing necklaces or bracelets with keys on them lately so naturally I had to get my own! I had been following La Clé Jewelry for a while on Twitter and Instagram and loved their keys so I decided to get one from there. The thing that I really like about La Clé's keys is that they are all repurposed. The keys are found worldwide so each and every one is different and unique. If you really want a certain type of key they will try and find one that fits what you're looking for but what's the fun in that? Don't you want to open up your little baggy and be surprised! (I know I do.) One of the things that you do get to choose about your key is what color it will be. They have so many colors to choose from and they all have a different meaning so you can base your color on what word best describes you! The other thing you choose is whether you want the La Clé Original key, La Clé Double Decker keys, a key from their limited collection- the Dipped Key, or a custom key where your key is stamped with the word of your choice. I chose to get their Double Decker key which is two different keys on one chain because, well, one key just wasn't enough!
Deanna, the La Clé designer, says that when the color of the key fades, it symbolizes the positive energy you've absorbed from your key's words. After the color of your key is gone don't forget to post a picture of it and hashtag #NakedKey with a note about what your color or word means to you so that La Clé Jewelry can make a donation in your name to a charity of your choice! How great is that?! Now it's time for you to go get your own key and post a picture of it on Instagram (don't forget to tag us @alexaalamode and @laclejewelry)! You can also follow La Clé Jewelry on Twitter @laclejewelry and sign up to get their newsletter on their website: www.laclejewelry.com! So lately I haven't really been exercising since I'm over my head with homework and meetings (yay for AP classes and Key Club!), but this past Monday I didn't have as much to do so I went to my first Túmba class! For all of you that don't know what Túmba is, it's a toning dance fitness class. At first I didn't know if I was going to like Túmba because it sounded like Zumba and I'm not really into that type of exercise but I went and gave it a try anyway. I'm glad I did because I loved it! The instructor was great and so were the new hit songs being played in the background. There's not too much dancing but it's just enough and trust me, you sweat, A LOT! It's not SUPER demanding and the good thing is that you can work at your own pace. The class I went to was for arms, chest, and back. I'm hoping to go again on a Wednesday for a butt and legs workout! I'll let you know how it goes... When you go to your first Túmba class don't forget to bring a bottle of water, a yoga mat, a towel, and some weights! See you there!
Túmba tips: 1. Take a beginners class even if you've done something like Túmba before because every instructor and workout is different. 2. Don't forget to take water breaks! 3. Make sure that your weights aren't too light where you don't work anything out or too heavy where you can't hold them over your head for a few seconds. 4. Don't try to do everything exactly like the teacher because, let's face it, she is the teacher and she's probably been doing it longer than you and is better at it. (Don't worry, you'll get there!) 5. Have fun! Túmba Instagram: @tumba_toning_dance_fitness Here are some of my favorite blogs:
http://tuttology.weebly.com http://thecityslickerblog.com http://collegelifespice.blogspot.com http://bwyouandme.weebly.com http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com http://www.thecattwalk.com I hope you like them as much as I do! Yes, I'm in high school, yes, I'm only in my junior year, and yes, I'm OBSESSED with dorms. When I went away for a week this summer to the University of Florida's Summer Journalism Institute I stayed on campus in a dorm in Rawlings Hall. I absolutely loved being in a dorm with everything close by. I also loved having the common area for everyone to hang out after classes were over. It was a great way to meet new people, especially if you don't particularly like your roommate. It's good to get out of your room and hang out with different people that you might not meet if you're locked up in the room. I love how you can really make your dorm room your own. I love decorating, so I had a fun time getting some things at the UF bookstore to make my dorm feel like home (even though it was just for a week)! I love seeing IKEA commercials and going on websites to look at furniture. I just picture how I would decorate my house, room, dorm, anything! I know some people would rather live in an apartment to have their own bathroom, kitchen, etc. but I actually prefer a dorm. I think they're more cozy and fun to live in. I also consider them to be safer, and since I'm afraid of pretty much everything, going home to an apartment late at night would creep me out. If you're in a dorm there are people around 24/7. Plus, you have the rest of your life to live in apartments, living in a dorm is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. It gives you the full college experience. I hope when I go to college I can have the experience of living in a dorm for at least one year, if not all four!
